Through a newly introduced feature named Communication Limits, part of Child Accounts, guardians gain the ability to approve new contacts before their children engage with them via Messages, FaceTime, calls, or iCloud contacts. This mechanism simplifies the approval process, allowing parents to consent with a single tap within Messages whenever their child wishes to interact with an unfamiliar number. Moreover, developers are empowered to integrate this functionality into third-party applications using Apple’s PermissionKit framework.
In addition to managing communications, Apple is refining its approach to app suitability through more precise age-based categorizations. By late 2025, parents will have access to five distinct categories designed to assist in determining appropriate content levels for adolescents. These include tailored ratings such as 13+, 16+, and 18+, providing a clearer framework for selecting apps that align with a child’s maturity level. When restrictions are set, incompatible apps will not surface in the App Store unless a child explicitly requests an exception under the Ask to Buy setting.
