On June 19, Marbles Kids Museum and Moore Square will come alive with a vibrant celebration of Juneteenth. This full-day event honors the historical significance of the abolition of slavery in the United States through art, music, performances, and family-friendly activities. The outdoor festivities are free for all to enjoy, while museum entry requires a separate ticket. Visitors can indulge in performances, culinary experiences, and interactive exhibits throughout the day.

Starting at noon, Moore Square transforms into a hub of cultural engagement. Attendees can savor cuisine from Black-owned food trucks and browse local vendors. At 4 p.m., Shenette Swann captivates the audience with a live performance. As evening approaches, DJ Baptiste spins tracks, accompanied by Taste of BLK's featured partners offering food and merchandise. Classic park games such as Connect Four and cornhole add to the communal atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the Marbles Playway hosts its own array of events. The Jacob Boss Jazz Band performs at noon, followed by a community mural project led by artist Tyler Jones. At 3 p.m., the Wake County Express Library invites families to participate in storytelling sessions centered on Black Brilliance programming.

Inside the Marbles Kids Museum, Tre. Charles entertains guests at 11 a.m. with a live show. Later, at 3 p.m., the library returns with more interactive storytimes. Throughout the day, visitors can join Line Dancing with Team Marbles or attend Garden Gourmet sessions featuring renowned chefs like Nate, Queen, and Julius Griffin.

Juneteenth marks an essential milestone in American history, symbolizing freedom and resilience. First celebrated in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, it became a federal holiday in 2021 after 156 years of commemoration. On this day, many institutions close their doors to honor the occasion, allowing people nationwide to reflect on progress and celebrate unity.

This year’s Juneteenth celebration offers something for everyone. By blending tradition with modern entertainment, the event fosters connection and joy within the community. Through engaging activities and meaningful performances, participants gain insight into the rich heritage behind Juneteenth while enjoying a memorable day out.
