From April 27 to May 3, the Onondaga County Health Department conducted food service inspections. One establishment received an unsatisfactory rating due to critical violations related to food storage temperatures and cleanliness, while numerous other establishments were found to be operating satisfactorily without any violations. No establishments reported corrected violations from previous inspections during this period.

Critical Violations at No. 1 Kitchen NY

A recent inspection of No. 1 Kitchen NY in Manlius uncovered several critical issues that jeopardized food safety. The health department identified improper cooling methods for cooked chicken, raw pork, and egg rolls, all left at unsafe temperatures for extended periods. Additionally, the kitchen faced challenges with hygiene and organization, including uncovered bulk food bins, food items on the floor, reused single-service bowls, unclean equipment exteriors, and dirty floors throughout the establishment.

The primary concerns involved food safety practices. Approximately four pounds of cooked chicken sat at a temperature range of 77 to 79 degrees after being cooked about an hour and a half earlier. Similarly, around ten pounds of raw pork was discovered between 66 and 68 degrees in the preparation area, having been removed from refrigeration for roughly one and a half hours. Egg rolls, approximately a dozen, were also stored improperly at 66 degrees after being taken out of cooler storage for about half an hour. Beyond these, the inspectors noted significant lapses in cleanliness and operational standards, necessitating immediate corrective actions.

Satisfactory Operations Across Multiple Establishments

In contrast to No. 1 Kitchen NY, multiple establishments within Onondaga County achieved satisfactory ratings. These businesses maintained proper food handling procedures, ensuring safe and hygienic environments for their customers. From Baked Potato Express to Uncle Chubby’s, no violations were detected during the inspections, reflecting high adherence to health regulations.

Several locations demonstrated exemplary compliance with health and safety protocols. For instance, Bold Coast Lobster Co., Christiano’s Kitchen, Funk ‘n Waffles, Golden City, and many others showcased meticulous attention to detail in maintaining clean facilities and appropriate food storage conditions. Notably, there were no recorded instances of prior violations requiring correction among these establishments. This highlights consistent efforts by these businesses to uphold stringent standards, thereby protecting public health and fostering trust with consumers. Furthermore, the absence of any establishments reporting corrected violations indicates ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality operations across the board.
