Porsche, a brand renowned for its forward-thinking technological advancements rather than dwelling on its heritage, has announced an intriguing feature for its forthcoming electric Cayenne: the inclusion of simulated V-8 engine sounds. This revelation marks a significant pivot from the automaker's existing electric models, such as the Taycan and Macan, both of which boast unique, purpose-built soundscapes designed specifically for their electric powertrains, devoid of traditional internal combustion engine characteristics.

Reports from a recent ride-along at the Goodwood Festival of Speed confirmed that the electric Cayenne will project sounds through its speakers, mimicking a genuine Porsche V-8. While this brings a familiar auditory experience to the electric SUV, observers noted the absence of simulated gear shifts, a feature found in some other performance EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N and Kia EV6 GT. This omission suggests that the V-8 sound, much like that in the Dodge Charger Daytona, might lack the natural progression of an internal combustion engine with multiple gears, potentially leading to a less authentic driving experience. Previously, Porsche's development driver, Lars Kern, indicated the company's disinterest in mimicking past technologies like fake gear shifts, asserting that electric motors inherently surpass their internal combustion counterparts.
